Increased environmental protection requirements demand lighter structures for aircraft and automobiles. Carbon fibre reinforced plastics (CFRP) are particularly suitable for lightweight and rigid profile components. Economic factors require cost-efficient manufacturing processes.

COPRO (Continuous Preforming for Composite Profiles) technology enables the efficient production of profile preforms for the RTM (Resin Transfer Moulding) process through rapid continuous manufacturing.

The automation of this process can significantly reduce component costs. With the novel COPRO technology, preforms for fibre composite profiles in structures of automotive and commercial vehicle bodies as well as aerospace applications can be produced cost-efficiently. Integrated into the RTM process chain, the technology in conjunction with multiaxial fabrics (MAG) represents a promising option for CFRP component production in the automotive high-volume process as well.

To ensure the quality of the product, a camera system from ISW GmbH was integrated into the plant. One line scan camera per pair of rollers monitors the forming process. A reference seam on the composite material is detected and the forming process is controlled in real time.
