Fabric-covered covers for convertibles are high-precision components of a corresponding vehicle. In addition to protecting against wind and weather, they also perform static tasks by supporting the torsion alto stiffness of the vehicle when closed. To ensure this, the production of these components must meet the highest standards. This is why a manufacturer of convertible covers has contacted ISW GmbH in order to have a variety of product parameters measured with high precision in one operation, both automatically and without contact.
For this purpose, ISW and its partner company Keller Feinwerktechnik developed a large-format measuring cell, which was equipped with a programmable and controllable robot arm. This carries a 3D sensor from the ISW partner Wenglor, which, equipped with strip light projection and high-resolution camera, takes over the measuring tasks.
The control of the robot and the evaluation of the obtained images are carried out by software programmed by ISW.
All this at high speed and with the highest precision – appropriate to the quality level of the product.
In the video on the side you can see the system in action.
